Warsaw is located in the central part of Poland in Masovia voivoideship. This green lowland territories depend greatly on agriculture. It has the lowest unemployment rate in Poland, namely 3%. Literally ‘crushed into pieces’ during the WW II it got rebuilt with a big help of volunteers from all over the country. People embracing long awaited freedom wanted to contribute to building a new, better future. It is often said that Warsaw is less interesting in terms of tourist attractions than Cracow. This statement is far from truth. Many of worth seeing sights include: Old Town, Lazienki and Wilanow Palace, Zacheta National Gallery of Art, Grand Theatre, and many others.

Warsaw is organizing many festivals and cultural events. Nowadays Warsaw is a perfect location for business, with excellent infrastructure qualified human resource and good land and air connections with other European capitals. It will be one of host cities during the fore coming European Championship in Football, for this occasion city replaced its old Stadion X-lecia with a brand new impressive one, fitting highest quality standards.

Along with preparing for this event, Warsaw put a lot of effort to become even more accessible to foreign visitors.

Two voivodeships of great meaning as for industry sector: Silesian and Lesser Poland, use respectively Katowice International Airport and John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice. Both of these airports are the biggest ones in this part of Poland. Poland’s second biggest city – Cracow, constructed its airport in Balice, around 11 km away from Cracow. During the first years it was used by the military but in 1972 started handling passenger planes. Nowadays it welcomes over 3 million passengers annually and increases the amount of possible destinations, therefore constant rise in number of people using this airport is expected to keep on growing.

Main airport of Silesia, Katowice International Airport is located circa 30 kilometers away, in Pyrzowice. It was first time used for passenger plane in 1966 and nowadays it serves over 2,5 million passengers every year. This modern construction was originally first used during the Second World War by German pilots, who used it to transport goods and test their machines. Due to the fact each offers a number of additional different routes and the distance between them equals around 100 km, passengers tend to use one of either even when their final destination is the other city. There are many companies offering minibus transportation between the airports, one can also rent a private taxi. The most economical way includes public transportation such as trains and buses.

A small city of Oswiecim in Poland became a location for the factory of mass killing. Auchwitz, Auschwitz-Birkenau and Auschwitz-Monowitz Concentration camps took life of over one million of Jews and Poles and other prisoners from abroad.

Reklama

#REKLAMA#

Nightmare of Auschwitz lasted 5 years and ended in 1945. Camp was not only a place for extermination the unwanted nation, but also a place of exploitation all possible sources. Prisoner elongings were taken away, valuable things shipped to the General Government of the Reich. Germans did not want to waste anything which could be used to generate income or be used in further processes. Women had their heads shaved bald and hair were used to make fabric. Inhumane practices involved forcing prisoners to hard work, torturing and undergoing gruesome medical experiments. However it was not only a place where victims’ lives ended. Just near the gas chambers you may see remains of a gallows which was used for hanging the first commandant of the camp- Rudolf Höß in 1947.

Over one million of visitors take part in guided tours per year. Many visitors do not hold back tears when visiting the chamber of starvation death, wall when thousands of people were executed or crematories used for burning bodies. Museum reconstructs well the way Auschwitz and Auschwitz Birkenau looked like, the everyday life full of suffering and martyr death of Nazi victims. Despite of its atrociousness, Auschwitz is an important place, making us understand things which should never happen again.

As you probably know, this summer all football fans will gather in front of their TV to watch the Euro 2012 games in Poland and Ukraine. If your national team qualified to this qnique tournament there a small chance that you’ll want to go to Poland and Ukraine to see „your boys” in action. If yes the best placo to go (and visit) during Euro 2012 is Cracow.

Reklama

#REKLAMA#

You will not see the Euro 2012 game in Cracow, but the capitol of Malopolska area will be one of the most popular cities during the whole tournament. Cracow is not only one ofthe most „tourist friendly” cities in Poland, but there are two big football clubs located in this historical city – Wisla Cracow and Cracovia Cracow. Because of that three football federations – Italy, England and Spain – decided that Cracow will be center of their national teams.

So if you are from Italy, Spain or England + you are planning holidays in Poland book your accommodation in Cracow right away! There is still a time to find a vero good accommodation (hotel etc), even in the center of Cracow.

Besides football related stuff (of course) you will find much more in Cracow, including many rare monumentals, great restaurants etc. So don’t wait and start looking for a hotel in Cracow!

As you probably know, Warsaw is a Poland’s capitol, with more than 1,7 mln residents, two big football clubs etc. Living in the capitol can be very tough, especially when travelling from on place to another. So if travelling in Warsaw can be very difficult for people living there, what about tourists?

Reklama

#REKLAMA#

Undeground

The Warsaw major, Mrs. Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, with all the citys communication consultants are aware of the tranport issues in the City, so they are constantly trying to improve transport in the City. Even her predecessors were aware of the problem, so in April 1983 the Warsaw authorities announced starting building underground communication (metro). Nowadays there is only one line that you can use, but in 2010 Warsaw communication and transport department started building second one. They should finish it by the end of 2013.

Tramway

Tramways are working in Warsaw since 1866. There are over 25 tramway lines in Warsaw.

Buses

There are more than 250 bus lines in Warsaw, so it’s quite easy to travel to most of the citys areas.

Taxi

We don’t recommend using taxi services in Poland. If you don’t know which taxi company you should pick, you better don’t use it at all.

To sum up

There are many communication conveniences in Warsaw, but for tourists the easist way to travel thru the City is to use the underground, even if there is only 1 central line. If you want to go somewhere where underground cannot take you can always use tramways and buses. We dont recommend taxis, because the polish taxi drivers are well know for cheating, especially with foreigners and people who don’t know the Warsaw road infrastructure.
